State Emergency Relief Fund
Section 37 of the Emergency Management Act 2004 (the Act) provides for the establishment of the State Emergency Relief Fund (the Fund), the successor to the State Disaster Fund.
Following the declaration of a "major emergency" for the Eyre Peninsula bushfire, the South Australian Government asked the Australian Red Cross to launch a public appeal for donations. These funds will be deposited into the State Emergency Relief Fund.
Under the terms of South Australia's Emergency Management Act, the funds will be allocated according to Governor's Directions for the relief of people who have suffered loss in the emergency and a committee may be established to allocate donated money deposited into the State Emergency Relief Fund.
In determining allocations the Committee is required to operate under directions provided by the Governor.
A Committee was appointed for a 12 month period, commencing on 7 April 2005 and has begun to allocate donated monies to those affected by the Eyre Peninsula Bushfires.
The Chair of the Committee Mr Barry J Grear AO, will provide a regular report on this site regarding the Committee's progress. Information on allocations will also be available in the Recovery Newsletter.
