The Parliament of South Australia legislates for peace, order and good government of South Australia, and raises revenue and appropriates of funds for development and maintenance of the state through its public services. Parliament is vested with the residual legislative powers not vested in the Commonwealth Parliament pursuant to Section 52 of the Commonwealth Constitution, has a life of four years, and is required to hold one session per year. Generally parliament sits during the months October to December and February to August, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Parliament of South Australia consists of the Crown, represented by the State Governor, and the two houses of parliament (the Legislative Council and House of Assembly).
