Registering a business name requires three steps:
- Complete the forms - you can do this online or download the forms from the website of Consumer and Business Services (CBS). You will be required to make a declaration regarding past offences or imprisonment.
- Pay the fees - check the fee schedule.
- Lodge your application online or by post or fax.

Apply online or download and complete the application form from the CBS website to register a business name.
Franchise consent
If you are applying for a business name that is part of an existing franchise, you must attach a letter of consent from the franchisor stating you are eligible to register under that name.

Business name is the same name as a Body Corporate
Use the Notice form on the CBS website to accompany an application where a business name is the same as a Body Corporate name. In this situation, the Body Corporate must be the sole proprietor of the business name.

Returning forms and payments
Applications received without the appropriate fee will be returned.

Business names forms can be lodged by facsimile and payment made by credit card. Forms received by facsimile - together with payment by credit card authorisation - will be processed within 10 working days.

Transactions and renewals are also available through Service SA customer service centres in Berri, Gawler, Kadina, Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, Naracoorte, Pt Augusta, Pt Lincoln, Pt Pirie and Whyalla.
