Taking part in parent groups is a good way to meet other parents and find out how you can contribute to your school community. Many schools have parent and friends committees that:
- are less formal than school councils or boards
- often have a fundraising or support role for school events
- may have some members on the school council, so that any issues raised can be brought to the attention of the school council.
Some schools have other parent groups including extra-curricular support groups such as sport or music, and some have past students' associations or alumni groups.
More information about promoting parent participation in public preschools and schools is provided on the
South Australian Association of School Parent Clubs website.
