When choosing a course consider:
- your personal interests and attributes can affect your success
- VET courses have a practical focus, and higher education courses are academic and theory focused
- the length of time needed to complete the course
- the mode of study offered. Some courses are only offered in full-time mode while others can be completed part-time or via distance learning
- flexibility in choosing subjects - some courses allow students more flexibility in choosing their subjects while others require students to study core subjects
- cost of the course
- career opportunities and options for postgraduate education.

Each year the
South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) publishes an information booklet on university and TAFE courses in South Australia. It also details how to apply for a particular course. Booklets are available from newsagents across South Australia.
