Spatial data downloads
The South Australian Government makes several planning related digital datasets available for download under the CC-BY Creative Commons licence.
Specific geographic information system (GIS) computer applications are required to read and use the datasets. They are downloaded as a single zip file and range in size from 5 kilobytes to several megabytes.
The datasets are automatically updated each Sunday regardless of whether the base data has been modified.
When downloading land development zone files be aware that the system delivers the most recently authorised GIS Data.

Land development zones
This dataset consists of Planning Zones, Policy Areas and Precincts that are derived from legal planning boundaries. This information is obtained from individual Development plans. The data has been captured for the state, based on development plan areas. The spatial coverage of each plan is captured within two weeks of a development plan amendment being authorised. Includes Planning Zones, Policy Areas, Precincts and a general land use category, required for electronic development plans, forecasting etc.

South Australian heritage places
The SA Heritage Places Database is a comprehensive listing of State Heritage Places from the South Australian Heritage Register, Local Heritage Places and Contributory Items from development plans. The data identifies cadastral parcels associated with each heritage place/item; records information from the South Australian Heritage Register or development plans about each place/item such as address, description, criteria for listing, plan/parcel/title; and records information about how accurately each place/item was located, associated AS2482 codes, valuation number, Local Government Area and development plan name.

Residential Code
The Residential Code was introduced in 2009 to allow for simpler, faster and cheaper planning and building approvals for home construction and renovation. This dataset defines the spatial extent of the Residential Code - the "Determined Area for the Purposes of Schedule 4 - Complying development Clause 2B - New Dwellings" in The South Australian Government Gazette (first published 27 November 2009, Supplementary Gazettes 1 to 6). PDF versions of the dataset are available by development plan.

Land divisions
This contains land division development applications pursuant to the Planning Act and Development Act 1993. Contains all applications lodged between November 1989 and October 1996 which had more than 5 allotments and all applications lodged since October 1996 regardless of the number of allotments. Once a Certificate of Approval to Divide has been issued and is lodged with the Lands Titles Office the plan is deposited and the application (or relevant parts of an application for staged applications) are moved from a 'proposal' to a 'deposited' status. Other statuses record 'refused', 'withdrawn' and 'lapsed' applications and reflect the current state of each application (and stages). EDALA is the source of all current status and date information relating to applications.

Bushfire protection areas
The Bushfire Protection Areas shows the spatial extent of the Bushfire Protection provisions brought in under the Ministerial Bushfire Management PAR in 2006/2007. They exist in the South East Region of South Australia, Riverland, Kangaroo Island, Mt Lofty Ranges and Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula. The level of bushfire risk is rated as High, Medium, General or Excluded and determines the Planning Approvals plus requirements under the Australian Building Code and Australian Standard AS 3959 for the construction of dwellings in the defined bushfire risk areas. Some areas have criteria that, if met, will change the designated level of bushfire risk.

Local government areas
This dataset records the location and extent of the local government areas within South Australia and their relationship to the Cadastre. Local Government Areas are an administrative theme to the Digital Cadastral DataBase (DCDB). Local Government Areas are under the control of local governing bodies and are defined by the Local Government Authority. The data is collected by Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.

Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale protection districts
Protection districts include the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale as defined by the Character Preservation (Barossa Valley) Act 2012 and Character Preservation (McLaren Vale) Act 2012. This legislation protects the unique heritage, culture and integrity of the districts by maintaining and preserving their rural amenity, maintaining the rural character and scenic vistas vital for tourism, making sure that future development supports and does not detract from the dominant land uses, and encouraging development that is well designed.
